Abstract
FinTech is transforming the financial services
landscape in India by enabling digital payments, credit access, and financial
inclusion. However, the rural population continues to face multiple challenges
in adoption. This study investigates the barriers to FinTech adoption in rural
India and explores future prospects for inclusive growth. Using both secondary
data from RBI, NPCI, and the World Bank, along with a structured
questionnaire-based primary survey, the research identifies infrastructure
gaps, digital literacy issues, trust deficits, and socio-cultural factors as
significant barriers. Despite these challenges, innovations such as UPI Pay,
Aadhaar-enabled Payment Systems (AePS), and agent-led delivery models show
strong potential for accelerating rural FinTech usage. The study offers
recommendations for policymakers, regulators, and FinTech startups to enhance
adoption and ensure digital financial inclusion.
