Abstract
Inclusive education in India aims to provide equitable learning
opportunities for all children, including those with disabilities and from
marginalized communities, ensuring their full participation in mainstream
classrooms. Despite progressive policies and legal frameworks such as the Right
to Education Act and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, the
implementation of inclusive education faces significant challenges. This study
explores the current landscape of inclusive education in India by examining
systemic barriers, infrastructural limitations, teacher preparedness, social
attitudes, and policy gaps. Using a mixed-methods approach, including
qualitative interviews with educators and policymakers alongside quantitative
analysis of enrollment and dropout data, the research identifies critical
issues impeding effective inclusion. Key findings reveal that inadequate
teacher training, lack of accessible facilities, and societal stigma continue
to marginalize vulnerable student groups. The study highlights the need for
comprehensive reforms in curriculum design, capacity building, community
awareness, and monitoring mechanisms. It underscores the potential of
technology and collaborative stakeholder engagement as future prospects to
enhance inclusive education. The paper concludes with policy recommendations
aimed at creating a more supportive and adaptive education system that
recognizes diversity as a strength rather than a barrier, thereby promoting
social justice and equal opportunities for all learners in India.
